Why Did Disco Die?

Scottsdale, Arizona | 2024

Why Did Disco Die? is a light-based installation created by Untitled Studio. The piece features 90 disco balls suspended throughout the space, arranged to invite reflection on the cultural shifts that marked the end of the disco era.

Each disco ball acts as a surface for projection-mapped visuals, turning them into moving, reflective elements that scatter light and imagery across the room. Using advanced projection techniques, Untitled Studio animated the installation with shifting patterns and archival visuals that respond to both space and viewer.

The result is a layered visual experience that combines nostalgia with digital precision. The installation reconsiders a familiar cultural symbol through the lens of modern technology, offering a space that feels both playful and reflective.

Untitled Studio developed the concept and executed all aspects of the production, from spatial layout and lighting design to projection mapping and final installation.
